Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used in multiple ways, and one of its applications improves the survivability of one of the most endangered species in the world. Baby turtles are separated from their natural habitat due to the ever-changing weather storms and climate shifts.
Baby turtles also fall prey to feral pigs which are found commonly on the island. With the use of AI and cloud technologies, rangers are able to track the location of the baby turtles and their nest way before their predators do.
Real-time location data allows accurate sensing of the turtles’ location and rangers would be able to rescue and migrate its’ nest to safe locations. As Ranger Dion Koomeeta has said, “We use science to protect the turtles so our next generation can know what the turtles look like”.
AI, in the right hands, warrants the sustainability of wildlife and allows the future generation to reap the efforts of the past.
